Grove House
01
Introduction
Extending an existing home to meet the needs of a growing family is an opportunity to redefine the day to day.
From the street the original Californian Bungalow of Grove House remains. The rooms are reimagined and refreshed. The original front door and hall lead to a new circulation axis leading past and through newly created spaces, hugging the northern boundary and arriving at a generous new living pavilion at the rear of the site.
In an arrangement that references the playful Mid-Century homes of Southern California, the home wraps a new landscaped garden and pool, anchored by the sculptural form of the ribbon stair.
The design brings a new generosity of space and light and dissolves the connection between indoor and outdoor, enabling the family to live differently in a place that has been familiar for many years.
